Deep and noble purple color wine, with a complex and intense bouquet, with notes of blue plum, ripe blackberry, black cherry, blueberry, sour cherry, blackcurrant, touches of leather, raspberry, violets. Deep, velvety taste with ample notes of delicate tannins and a long, sensual finish. The blend has a very nice balance between fruit and wood. The woody notes slightly dominates over the variety of flavours, but still fusion together into a fruity-savory mix ofaromas, to gain more grip on the finish, excellently mixing power and finesse.

This fairly unknown grape variety took the wine world by storm when Decanter Magazine awarded the 2019 Viorica de Purcari 97pts and declared it 'Best in Show' in 2020. Strangely, Viorica is a crossing of two red grapes: Seibel and Aleatico. Grown on Purcari's estate in Stefan Voda, the Viorica is hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel. The wine is expressive and fruity with aromas of honeysuckle, elderflower and lime with a palate full of grapefruit, lychee, mango and guava. It is notable for its purity above all and will give anyone who drinks it a memory to savour.

Stefan Voda in the south-east and the Valul lui Traian in the south-west are warmer and are better known for their fine red wines.

Overall from my first sip to my final one I was pleased far beyond my expectation. The following day, thinking about how much I love Pinot Noir and Gamay with pate, I paired it while I finished writing this up. This is a great picnic wine and might be an interesting option for Thanksgiving meals for turkey or ham.
